In "All My Life For Sale," John Freyer documents putting his stuff onto eBay for sale. It's easier to do that if you are an impoverished graduate student (or undergraduate), perhaps, than if you have accumulated a lot of stuff.
There are photos of some of his materials on pp. 58-59--a modernistic ashtray circa 1950 on the left, some of what appear to be plastic cups with stripes on them on 59. There's a nylon jacket on 64, a fishing patch on 66 and a pizza joint T-shirt on 67.
I'm not concerned with the content of this post at the moment. I want to use it to illustrate a couple of things that can be done with HTML codes.
There's something more than a little embarrassing about some of the stuff put on sale, whether it's on eBay or at a garage sale. In order to get rid of your stuff in this way, you have to admit publicly to having owned it in the first place, whether you bought it or it was gifted.
On the other hand, sports paraphernalia and many other categories have often acquired personal significance that makes them valuable to the possessor, if not to other people. I have an old-style Pirates cap in my office that I use to shield my eyes mornings when I'm in the office. I got it years ago when I took my family to a game there, while my oldest son was in school--last year for Three Rivers.
People often decorate their rooms, their cars, their personal spaces with such.
